Still friends.

Five years after 'retirement' and Jacey Hilary and Brian were starting to get itchy to sing some harmonies again, so when Lunenburg Folk Harbour Festival asked them to re-form for the 25th anniversary festival in 2010 they thought about it for... ooh... minutes and said yes,

Then they started to work out the implications. After five years of not singing together they knew they were going to have to do some serious rehearsing and re-learning old material. With all that rehearsing it seemed a pit to only do one gig, so Jacey whispered 'Artisan reunion' and the gigs came rolling in. In next to no time they had gigs lined up in the UK and Canada.

Then they figured it would be nice to have some new songs, too. Brian had a bunch of songs that had never seen the light of day – some recent, some not. So it seemed logical to not only learn the new songs, but to record them as well. One thing led to another...

Somedays when I wish the hours were longer
Somedays when the diary rules the way
Somedays when my mind begins to wander
I put another day inside the tray
It's then I
Walk a little, think a little
Talk a little, drink a little
Play a little music just to pass the time away
Watch a little, read a little
Doze a little, feed a little,
Spend a little time on random play

Sometimes I can feel the days grow colder
Sometimes I can feel the hours go slow
Sometimes when I feel I'm getting older
Then I know it's time for me to go
Where I can
Walk a little etc.

Somedays spinning circles getting dizzy
Somedays when the task is far too long
Somedays just pretending I am busy
Inside I get the feeling somethings wrong
Then I will
Walk a little etc.

Somewhere in the middle of that grey day
Somewhere there's a little bit of light
Somewhere there's a space to sit and play day
A little bit of time to put things right
Where I can
Walk a little etc.

Somehow I will give myself that free time
Somehow I will blow that care away
Somehow I will make a little me time
Somehow make the clock stand still all day
So I can
Walk a little etc.

Spend a little time on random play
Spend a little time on random play
Spend a little time on ran - dom - play

I Am Woman I Am Man

I am weak and I am strong
I am right and I am wrong
I am the river and the dam
I am woman I am man

I am wicked I am good
I am spirit I am blood
I am the years that I must span
I am woman I am man

I am love and I am hate
I am chance and I am fate
I am the race the one who ran
I am woman I am man

I am oppressor and oppressed
I am the worst the cursed the best
I am disorder and the plan
I am woman I am man

I am wisdom I am fool
I am tender I am cruel
I am nation I am clan
I am woman I am man

I am weak and I am strong
I am right and I am wrong
I am the river and the dam
I am woman I am man

I am peace I am war
I am virgin I am whore
I am the fire the flame the fan
I am woman I am man

I am master I am beast
I am famine fast and feast
I am the dream the word I am
I am woman I am man

I am bound I am free
I am all I am me
I am ruler I am slave
I am birth I am the grave

I will end as I began
I am woman I am man

To the Spirit of the Trees

To the spirit of the trees
I give my breath to fan the breeze
That you may sing your song
And let your song belong
To the spirit of the sky
I shed a tear that you may cry
And from your sorrow
Bring life tomorrow

The summers haze, the autumn mist
I know them both and I exist
The winters chill, the springtime rain
I mark them all and sing again

To the spirit of the earth
You gave me worth you gave me birth
You gave me all I own
I give you all I've known
And I am heard
In the spirit of the word

To the spirit of the stream
You flow and grow and like a dream
I sit and watch you dance
Along your path of chance
To the spirit of the night
I close my eyes and douse the light
And watch untethered thought
Within your darkness caught

The evening stars, the morning sun
I know them both and we are one
The open sea , the rocky shore
I mark them all and sing once more

To the spirit of the day
I give the words that I must say
The words I pray you will remember
In my December
And I am heard
In the spirit of the word

To the spirit of the years
The fragile fears that no-one hears
For we can never
Live for ever
To the spirit of the song
You feed no mouth you right no wrong
But you can make me whole
You hold my life my soul
And I am heard
In the spirit of the word

Time of the Signs

You're wasting your time
As you're waiting in line
For the light to say go on your way
Just walking the street
Pounding the beat
As the neon turns night into day

You're taking your time
As you're holding the line
Shredding the minutes you earn
Then back to the screen
Eyes turning green
Watching the hour glass turn

It's a time of the sign
See what I say
Read me and know
Know and obey
Follow the line
Do as you're told
Go where I tell you
Buy what you're sold

It's a sign of the time of the
Sign of the time of the sign

You're passing the time
On the underground line
Watching the night flashing by
Overhead out of reach
A girl on a beach smiling
Two hundred dollars to fly - away

You're killing some time
As you're spinning a line
And the uniform tickets your screen
You tried to be good
You parked where you could
But the sign up above's looking mean

It's a time of the sign
Labelled in lights
Everything's green
Go when you like
Signs you can trust
Signs won't deceive
Here's where you pay
Here's where you leave

It's a sign of the time of the
Sign of the time of the sign

You're making up time
As you race down the line
Riding the hours around
Every mile of the drive
Signs are alive
And they're shouting but don't make a sound

You dream away time
Checking each line
Hoping your numbers will fall
That girl on the beach
Still out of reach
Will take you away from it all

It's a time of the sign
See what I say
Read me and know
Know and obey
Follow the line
Do as you're told
Go where I tell you
Buy what you're sold

It's a sign of the time of the
Sign of the time of the
Sign of the time of the
Sign of the time of the sign

Weatherman

The weatherman says and the weatherman knows
That the rain will fall and the wind will blow
Now the weatherman says it looks like snow
And the weatherman's always right
Well the weatherman says there's a cold front here
A warm front there. Here a front there a front
The weatherman says there's high pressure near
And the weatherman's always right

Hey Ho the weatherman knows
The rain will fall the wind will blow, yes
Hey Ho the weatherman knows
And the weatherman's always right
(Repeat)

Well the weatherman says the sun will shine
The summer will be just hot and fine
We can dry our things on the old close line
For the weatherman's always right. MMM !
Well the weatherman says we can stay at home
No need to fly to Spain or Rome
Better buy a parasol for the garden gnome
And the weatherman's always right

Hey Ho the weatherman knows etc.

Now the weatherman says that hail and snow
Will block the roads so please don't go
And drive your car 'cos we all know
That the weatherman always right
When the weatherman rubs his crystal ball
Predicating that the sky will fall
We all believe no doubt at all
And the weatherman's always right

Hey Ho the weatherman knows etc.

Well the weatherman says the world will fry
Carbon gas will fill the sky
The seas will rise and we all will die
And the weatherman's always right
So the weatherman says the skies are grey
The world will end it's time to pray
Still I'll carry my umbrella on a sunny day
And the weatherman's always right

Hey Ho the weatherman knows
The rain will fall the wind will blow, yes
Hey Ho the weatherman knows
And the weatherman's always right

(4 repeats)

High Ground

And there's bad water flowing
Big river growing
Everyone's going to high ground, high ground
Bad river racing
White water chasing
Time to be facing high ground, high ground

Bad weather coming
Big river humming
Everyone's running to high ground, high ground
Black shrouds are shedding
Deep water spreading
Everyone heading for high ground, high ground

Rain rain go away
Come again another day
Rain rain let me be
That waterfall is chasing me

Bad winds are waking
Big storms are breaking
Everyone's taking the high ground, high ground
Bad times arriving
Deep water diving
Everyone's driving to high ground, high ground

Rain rain go away
Come again another day
Rain rain let me be
That waterfall is chasing me

Storm clouds are growing
Flash lightning glowing
Everyone's going to high ground, high ground
Dark thoughts are weaving
Strange thoughts of grieving
Everyone leaving for high ground, high ground

Rain rain go away
Come again another day
Rain rain let me be
That waterfall is chasing me

And there's bad water flowing
Big river growing
Everyone's going to high ground, high ground
Bad river racing
White water chasing
Time to be facing high ground, high ground

Rain rain go away
Come again another day
Rain rain let me be
That waterfall is chasing me
Rain rain go away
Come again another day
Rain rain let me be
That waterfall is chasing me
Rain rain go away
Come again another day
Rain rain let me be
That waterfall is chasing
Waterfall is chasing
That waterfall is chasing me

I Hear the Sky is Falling

There is war on the horizon
There is evil at the door
There is murder round the corner
There is blood upon the floor
There is terror to beware of
It is here it has begun
I hear the sky is falling, better run run run

There's a cloud on the horizon
Could be chemical or gas
There are cattle lying sleeping
Could be poison on the grass
I hear thunder far away
Could be a bomb could be a gun
I hear the sky is falling, better run run run
You better run, you better hide, better still just stay inside
Wear a helmet wear a gas mask wear a shroud
Live in terror live in fear, you know the end is near
For every silver lining hides a cloud

The sound of danger getting closer
It's are swarm of killer bees
The cows are really really mad
And birds are sneezing in the trees
Wicked creatures great and small
They are evil every one
I hear the sky is falling, better run run run

I hear footsteps on the pavement
Better hide till they walk by
I hear voices round the corner
Faintly cry the end is nigh
I see strangers in the distance
Could be killers everyone
I hear the sky is falling, better run run run
Chorus

There a are weasels in the office
There are vultures in the skies
There are boars that hog the fast lane
And the sharks are wearing ties
There's a rat behind the desk
The snakes are basking in the sun
I hear the sky is falling, better run run run

They are waiting in the alleys
They are lurking out of sight
Beware of shadows in the sunlight
Of moonlight in the night
They are coming in there thousands
They are here it has begun
I hear the sky is falling, better run run run
You better run, you better hide, betterstill just stay inside
Wear a helmet wear a gas mask wear a shroud
Live in terror live in fear, you know the end is near
For every silver lining hides a cloud x2

Love and War

I looked into the distance
Past the coffee and the toast
Past horizons full of comfort
Into dark clouds made of ghosts
And there beneath the thickening mist
Where words are blown apart
The flames that fan the worst of man
Are fuelled by broken hearts
Beneath the clouds of war
The dirge that insects wings have sung
Yesterday we ploughed the earth
Today we reaped the young
And though you talk to me of honour
Fight for glory battles won
Yesterday we'd harvest corn
Today the scythe's a gun

I looked into the distance
Past the champagne and the beer
Past horizons of contentment
Into dark skies made of fear
Gentle sheep that run to slaughter
Urged by dogs that bark behind
Every fist that's clenched in battle
Must be wielded by a mind
Beneath the clouds of war
The insects sing their song again
Another day another way
For boys to prove they're men
A though you talk to me of honour
As the shell bursts out of sight
When the innocent lies bleeding
Does the glory make it right

I looked into the distance
Past the coffee and the toast
Past horizons full of comfort
Into dark clouds made of hosts
Of living stories not completed
Broken promises and more
Where every fighter's on the good side
And all is fair in love and war

Living stories not completed
Broken promises and more
Where every fighter's on the good side
And all is fair in love and war

All Is Fair in Love and War

And the drums beat the time of the marching man
As he walks to the rhythm of another man's plan
With his head held high and honour to be won
He marches to the rhythm of the big brass gun
To the hammer of the cannon and the rattle of the blade
To the pounding of the devil at the door
When the blood flood breaks and the shell hole shakes
All is fair in love and war

And the drum and the young march away to the hill
They will fight for the right for the right they will kill
With heaven on your side when the struggle has begun
You'll never be a victim of the big brass gun
To the hammer of the cannon and the rattle of the blade etc.

Still the drum beats the rhythm of the battle weary heart
As it fights back the fear and it waits for the start
Of the charge to begin and the death race run
Will he fall to the beating of the big brass gun
To the hammer of the cannon and the rattle of the blade etc.

And the drum beats the passing of the military soul
To the orders of the general safely buried in a hole
And the death breath cry of another mothers son
As he falls to the rhythm of the big brass gun

To the hammer of the cannon and the rattle of the blade etc.

And the drums beat the time of the marching man
As he walks to the rhythm of another man's plan
With his head held high and honour to be won
He marches to the rhythm of the big brass
He marches to the rhythm of the big brass

To the hammer of the cannon and the rattle of the blade
To the pounding of the devil at the door
When the blood flood breaks and the shell-hole shakes
All is fair in love and war

The Devil's Wager

A house of greed a house of woe
And all who venture here must know
Its lord believed that he might win
A wager with the devil's kin

He sought to prove one noble born
Would rise above disdain or scorn
To claim his birth right as he should
And to this end he wagered blood

To the devil he laughed
To the devil he swore
My son his birthright will restore
To the devil he lied
To the devil he cried
No son of mine will be denied

The devil's kin with evil guile
Took from this house their infant child
His lady wept; the deed was done
The lord agreed the game begun

Another child of lowly grace
Was left to take this infant's place
The lords true son would see the dawn
Believing he was humbly born
To the devil he laughed etc. etc.

The lord agreed his new son would
Be treated as of noble blood
And when the child should come of age
True son and false would battle wage

The years passed by, the child now grown
The lord now loved him as his own
Forgotten was the devil's game
His lady cursed her anguish plain

To the devil she laughed
To the devil she swore
My son his birthright will restore
To the devil she lied
To the devil she cried
No son of mine will be denied

This Lord's own joy was dearly bought
For now the devil looked for sport
And to the noble's house a boy
Came seeking shelter and employ

The devil watched with evil grin
To see the young boy enter in
The lady looked and straightway saw
This young lad was the babe she bore

To the devil she laughed etc. etc.

She knew her lord would harm him now
And so she made a solemn vow
Her son would take his rightful place
The false son now his death must face

And so that night this lady crept
Into the room wherein he slept
And while the lad in sleep did rest
She plunged a dagger in his breast
To the devil she laughed etc. etc

The boy cried out, the lady fled
The true son to the cry now sped
The dagger from its bloody sheath
He drew to see the wound beneath

And as he did this favour grim
The noble lord now entered in
He saw beside the deathbed stand
This boy with dagger in his hand

In anger and in black despair
He slew the young boy then and there
And as he killed his own true son
The devil howled, his sport was done
Now the devil he laughed
Now the devil he swore
Your soul is mine for ever more
Now the devil he lied
Now the devil he cried
No child of mine will be denied

The wager could no longer stand
Both sons were dead as he had planned
And by the evil deaths they wrought
The lord and lady's souls were caught

That night this lord and lady died
A poison goblet by their side
For those who join the devil's game
Will play with life and live with pain

To the devil they laughed
To the devil they swore
Their son his birthright would restore
To the devil they lied
To the devil they cried
And the devil a son them both denied

If I Had Time

If I had time (If I had time)
If I had space (If I had space)
If had money (Money money money)
If I had a good place to do it
I could be brilliant (I could be brilliant)
Top of the bill (Top of the bill)
But I never have time and I never have space
So I guess I never will will will

If I had looks (If I had looks)
If I had style (Yeah ?)
If I was funny (Makes me laugh)
Then I could smile (Big grin)
If I was young (Those were the days)
If I was free (I'd sail to sea)
But I never had this and I never had that
So I better be me me me

I can find a million reasons
Just to waste away the seasons
Finding time for simply waiting
Working hard - - - - - procrastinating

If I had time (It's another excuse)
If I had space (A reason to fail)
If I had money (Never enough)
If I had a good place to do it
I could be brilliant (Couldn't we all)
Top of the bill (Bills you pay)
But I never have time and I never have space
I just throw it away way way

If I was brave (That yellow streak)
If I had nerve (Takes nerve to sing)
If I was tough (Just like a boot)
I could do my own thing (Let's sing that swing)
I could be famous (Who are you?)
Top of the heap (That's were it steams)
But being that brave and being that tough
Is not what it seem seem seems

I've got time to find no time
Lots of reasons but no rhyme
Some day, one day I will know
Some day one day I'll press go, go, go

If I had time (That's all you've got)
If I had space (The world's a big place)
If I had money (Another excuse)
Just find a good place to do it
I could be brilliant (Couldn't we all?)
Top of the bill (Your biggest fan)
So you better make time & you better make space
'Cause you know that you can can can

If I had wealth ( You have your friends )
If I had strength ( They're there to lean on)
If I could write ( Write me a song )
Of just the right length ( Size doesn't matter )
If I could sing ( That's what you're doing )
If I could move ( It's time to dance )
But I never have time and I never have space
So I never have the chance chance chance

AUDIENCE ? :-
If I had time ( If I had time )
If I had space ( If I had space )
If had money ( Money money )
If I had a good place to do it
I could be brilliant ( I could be brilliant )
Top of the bill ( Top of the bill )
But I never have time and I never have space
So I guess I never will will will

You got to make time ( That's all you've got )
You got to make space ( The world's a big place )
You don't need money ( Who are you kidding )
Just find a good space to do it
You can be brilliant ( Couldn't we all )
Top of the bill ( Your biggest fan )
You got to make time you got to make space
'Cause you know that you can can can
You got to make time you got to make space
'Cause you know that you can -- can
